INTRO, Y'ALL.
Astrid Young, 18
hometown; New York, NY
current city; Santorini, Greece
likes; The smell of bubblegum, bright colors, eccentric clothing, kids, "field trips", gangster rap, anything sparkly, smoothies, making people laugh, being weird, and talking (and never stopping).
dislikes; Uptight people, coffee, anything bland, know-it-alls, being lazy, and perfect hair.
Astrid is, like most people say, perma-stoned. She's truly the definition of "high off life." From a young age, little Astrid has always loved roaming around and trying new things. This free-spirited quality never quite actually left her. Naturally an adventurer, she liked going on little "field trips" around the city with her mom. Little did she know that those little field trips with mommy could turn into an actual trip abroad. At fifteen, Astrid flew to Greece with her mom... and she fell in love. The culture, the language, the people... everything. The fresh and chill atmosphere fit her personality to a tee. And that's when she knew she wanted to live in Greece somewhere in the near future. She started learning the language ferociously and trying all of the Greek cafes/restaurants she could find in New York City. Soon, her greek skills became quite superior. Not perfect, but good for a beginner. And that's exactly how she became an Au Pair. She said bye-bye to Juilliard (temporarily), packed her bags, kissed her worried Mom goodbye, hopped on the plane to Santorini and never looked back.
dating status; single... but /might/ be crushing on a guy who already has a girlfriend.

the family:
tony galanos, 36
tony moved to the windy city of chicago from greece at the young age of twelve to live with his american mother and her boyfriend. they have never met before, but his father always told him stories and such. he left his luxe home in santorini and moved into his mom's quaint two bedroom apartment because he couldn't deal with his father's feisty and temperamental personality... along with his drinking problem. tony went on to becoming a successful writer after graduating from yale university. his mother died of a car accident shortly after his first book went on the NY times best selling authors list. he dedicated his second book to her. one tuesday afternoon, tony got a call from his dad, who has lung cancer, telling him he only has a month left to live. tony immediately cancelled everything in his planner and flew to santorini with adrian, his eight year old son.
adrian galanos, 8
don't let his sweet face fool you; this little rascal is everything but sweet. the word 'difficult' describes him in a nutshell. although hard to deal with, adrian is an eight year old genius. he's also very quick on his feet and can solve a rubiks cube in less than 45 seconds. adrian's mother fled after giving birth to him, which is the main cause of adrian's somewhat arrogant attitude. although he always shows that side of him, you can tell he's very vulnerable and still emotionally bruised from his mother leaving.
philippos galanos, 72
born into an extremely wealthy family of doctors and lawyers, philippos never had to work a day in his life. his mother was a beautiful singer whose name everyone knew in Greece, and possibly even beyond. his father was a surgeon, and the two had met in college. they were inseparable -- and then she died of a sudden heart attack. philippos' father took his anger out by drinking large amounts of alcohol, and ultimately committed suicide when philippos was sixteen. he moved in with his aunt and uncle in athens, who spoiled him and granted his every wish. when philippos turned 21, he dropped out of college and moved to new york, where he met julia, tony's mother. julia was a college student working at a diner. beautiful and extremely smart, philippos fell in love almost immediately. they started an unhealthy relationship, fighting daily. philippos yelled at julia in broken english, beating her constantly. they ended their relationship when tony was born, philippos taking him and moving back to greece, realizing it was the best thing to do as he has a house in santorini and a bank account that holds more than enough money. he offered julia to come and live with him in greece, but she denied; she had too many things going for her to just run away and raise a child with a man she barely even loved. philippos ended up in santorini with a depressed state of mind, raising tony alone and creating a drinking problem, which ultimately led to tony moving in with julia in chicago. although his relationship with tony isn't the best, philippos knows that he needs to show the love he once lacked to his one and only son in the remaining time he has left.
the locals up later, heh.
